The Link Between Mental Health and Physical Wellness

So. When u think about health, like the first thing most ppl think of is like diet and maybe gym or whatever, right? But not everyone realise that mental health is just as important and even like, connected to the body health, like, they go hand in hand. If ur not okay mentally, its gonna show up in your body too eventually. and same the other way around, when u sick or tired all the time, your mind kinda goes down too.

whats mental health mean exactly?

Ok so mental health is not just like “oh u have depression” or some illness. Its more like, your mood, how u deal with stress and stuff, if u feel okay day to day. Everyone has mental health, its not just ppl who are “mentally ill” or whatever. Like somedays ur happy and doing fine, other days ur anxious or annoyed or sad for no reason and it’s just part of life but sometimes it gets too much and then it affects everything.

physical wellness = working out?

Not just that tbh. Yeah working out is part of it but also eating right, sleeping enough, not getting sick all the time. If your body is run down or tired or like, always in pain, that really effects your mood. Like you don’t wanna talk to people or go outside or even think clearly when your body feels bad. So they’re totally connected.

they actually effect each other a LOT

So like, when ur stressed or having anxiety, ur body reacts too. It’s not “just in ur head”. Like u start sweating, fast heart beat, headaches, stomach probs, all that. And if ur always stressed like with work or school or life stuff, then ur body is always on edge too. That can lead to big stuff like heart probs or insomnia or immune system not working well.

And the other way too. Like if u have back pain or u always tired or got some illness that won’t go away, that can make u depressed. Or frustrated or angry and u stop caring about stuff. Been there.

How bad mental health makes physical health worse

Depression, for example, makes u not want to move or eat right. U might skip meals, or overeat, or just sleep too much or not enough. U feel tired 24/7. Same with anxiety, ppl don’t sleep good, get stomach aches, always tense. If ur mental health is bad, it’s wayyy harder to keep ur body healthy. You don’t have motivation for it.

taking care of ur body helps ur brain tho

Working out actually makes u feel better. Not just about looks or fitness, but it literally releases like chemicals in ur brain that make u happy (endorphins? i think). Even just walking helps. Also sleep is soooooo important. If u sleep only 3-4 hrs a night, you’re gonna be mad, sad, tired, all the things.

Also food. Eat something with vitamins or veggies sometimes lol. Brain needs fuel too. Junk food all the time makes u sluggish and tired and even sad tbh.

little habits make big difference

Like ok u don’t have to become a gym freak or vegan or whatever. But maybe drink water more. Go outside sometimes. Say no to stuff that drains u. Talk to someone when ur feeling off. Put ur phone down a bit. That stuff matters. Don’t wait till ur burned out.

Social life matters too

Being alone too much is not good for ur brain. Humans need people, even if ur introvert. Even just texting someone or talking about ur day helps. If u feel lonely, it can mess with your health a lot. It can make u feel sick even when ur not.

people don’t talk about this enough

Mental health still has stigma. Like ppl will say “it’s all in ur head” but like yeah, that’s the point. It’s in your head but it effects your WHOLE body. And sometimes ppl don’t wanna get help cuz they think it’s weak or embarasing. But like, going to therapy or asking for help is literally strong, not weak. It’s harder to talk about stuff than ignore it.

random tips (in no order lol)

  • try to get 7-8 hours of sleep if u can

  • eat something with nutrients idk

  • move a bit. walk, stretch, dance around, whatever

  • drink water (yes this again)

  • don’t scroll social all night, it ruins ur brain fr

  • talk to ppl

  • avoid stuff that makes u feel like garbage. people too.

  • get help if u feel stuck. its ok.

final thoughts i guess

Mental and physical health are like connected big time. U can’t just take care of ur body and ignore your mind. Or think u can just “think positive” and ignore when ur physically drained. They affect each other 24/7. So yeah, check in with both. Take care of urself. Even if it’s messy or slow or not perfect. Just try.
